Monte Cristo Sliders are a delightful twist on the classic sandwich, featuring layers of ham, smoked turkey, and Gruyère cheese nestled inside sweet Hawaiian rolls. Baked with a rich buttery sauce and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar and raspberry preserves, these sliders offer a perfect balance of savory and sweet flavors. Ideal for gatherings or as a comforting appetizer, these sliders are easy to assemble and bake to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Sliders

  • 1 package Sweet Hawaiian Dinner Rolls (12-count)
  • ½ pound deli sliced smoked ham
  • ½ pound deli sliced smoked roasted turkey
  • ½ pound Gruyère cheese, hand grated

Sauce

  • 1 stick salted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise

Garnish

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • Raspberry preserves, for serving

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Baking Dish: Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper or foil, leaving an overhang to use as handles for easy lifting. Lightly coat the parchment paper-lined dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Assemble the Sliders: Keep the Hawaiian rolls connected and slice them horizontally as one unit without separating them into individual rolls. Place the bottom half of the rolls into the prepared baking dish. Evenly layer the smoked ham, smoked roasted turkey, and grated Gruyère cheese over the rolls.
  3. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, beaten egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and mayonnaise until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Apply Sauce and Bake: Pour half of the sauce evenly over the layered cheese and meats. Place the top half of the rolls over the assembled ingredients, pressing down gently. Pour the remaining sauce over the tops and brush it evenly. Bake uncovered in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. If the tops begin to brown too quickly, loosely cover the dish with foil to prevent burning.
  5. Finish & Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Using the parchment paper handles, carefully lift the entire slab of sliders onto a cutting board. Slice into individual sliders using a sharp knife. Dust the tops generously with powdered sugar and serve warm with raspberry preserves on the side for dipping.

Notes

  • Keep the rolls connected while slicing to make assembly easier and to maintain the structure of the sliders.
  • If you don’t have Gruyère cheese, Swiss cheese can be a good substitute for a similar flavor.
  • Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor, especially fresh deli ham and turkey.
  • The raspberry preserves add a delicious sweet contrast; feel free to substitute with other fruit preserves if desired.
  • To prevent over-browning, keep an eye on the sliders during baking and cover with foil if necessary.
