Savor delicious grilled cheeseburgers made with juicy seasoned beef patties, melted cheese, crispy bacon, and fresh toppings like lettuce, pickled onions, tomatoes, and gherkins served on toasted buns. This classic American recipe combines smoky flavors from the grill with creamy condiments for a satisfying and flavorful meal.

Ingredients

Beef Patties

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • 4 slices of cheese (American or cheddar)

Burger Assembly

  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 small lettuce, washed and leaves separated
  • ½ cup pickled pink onion
  • ½ cup pickled gherkins
  • 1 tomato, sliced
  • Ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise (to taste)

Bacon

  • 4 slices of bacon

Other

  • Cooking spray or a teaspoon olive oil for grilling

Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, ensuring it reaches an optimal temperature to cook the burgers evenly and develop a nice sear.
  2. Prepare Patties: In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt and pepper, taking care not to overwork the meat to maintain tenderness. Shape the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties, pressing a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent puffing while grilling.
  3. Grill Patties: Lightly coat the grill grates with cooking spray or brush with olive oil to prevent sticking. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 4-5 minutes on the first side till a crust forms.
  4. Flip and Cook: Flip the patties carefully and grill for an additional 3-4 minutes for medium-rare doneness. Adjust cooking time if you prefer your burgers more well done.
  5. Add Cheese: During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty and allow it to melt thoroughly on the hot burgers.
  6. Grill Bacon: While the patties finish cooking, grill the bacon slices until they become crispy and golden brown.
  7. Assemble Burgers: Place each cooked patty on the bottom half of a burger bun. Top with crispy bacon, pickled pink onions, lettuce leaves, tomato slices, pickled gherkins, and condiments such as ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise according to your preference.
  8. Serve: Cap the burgers with the top half of the buns. Serve immediately with your choice of sides like chips, fries, or a fresh salad.

Notes

  • For juicier burgers, avoid pressing down the patties on the grill.
  • Use freshly ground black pepper and high-quality ground beef for best flavor.
  • Adjust cheese type to preference; Swiss or pepper jack work well too.
  • Ensure the grill is properly cleaned and oiled before cooking to prevent sticking.
  • If outdoor grilling is unavailable, this recipe can be adapted for stovetop grill pans or broilers.
