Create charming and festive Brie Christmas Tree appetizers perfect for holiday gatherings. These bite-sized wedges of creamy Brie are decorated with a colorful mix of dried cranberries, nuts, and herbs, and served on pretzel stick trunks for a delightful and edible holiday decoration.

Ingredients

Cheese

  • 1 wheel of Brie (170–200 g), firm and well-chilled

Garnish and Decoration

  • 8 to 10 pretzel sticks (for tree trunks)
  • 2 tablespoons dried cranberries, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh herbs (chives, parsley, or dill)
  • 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Brie Wheel: Place the chilled Brie wheel on a sturdy cutting board. Using a sharp knife, carefully remove only the top layer of rind while keeping the bottom rind intact. Then slice the wheel into 8 to 10 wedge-shaped pieces, like cutting a pie, working quickly to maintain the cheese’s firmness.
  2. Prepare the Festive Garnish: In a shallow bowl or plate, combine chopped dried cranberries, chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts), and finely chopped herbs of your choice. Adjust the mixture to taste for color and texture balance.
  3. Assemble the Christmas Trees: Insert one pretzel stick gently into the wide base of each Brie wedge to create the trunk. Optionally, brush a thin layer of honey or maple syrup on the exposed cut surface of the Brie to help the garnish adhere. Press the exposed side into the cranberry-nut-herb mixture so the decorations stick evenly, creating a colorful tree appearance.
  4. Serve and Display: Arrange the decorated Brie Christmas trees on a serving platter. Optionally, garnish the platter with fresh herbs or greens to create a festive forest look. Serve at room temperature, paired with crackers, charcuterie, fruit preserves, or dips for a delightful holiday appetizer spread.

Notes

  • Use a firm, well-chilled Brie to make cutting and decorating easier.
  • If desired, add a small star decoration on top using a sliver of yellow bell pepper or cheddar cheese.
  • Try finely minced rosemary for a pine tree aroma and appearance.
  • Experiment with different nuts, such as pistachios, for unique flavors and colors.
  • For a sweet twist, substitute herbs and nuts with crushed gingerbread cookies and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
  • Work quickly to prevent the Brie from softening too much at room temperature.
